The NYSBA honors Bennett Liebman '74 with 2012 Award for Excellence in Public Service

Bennett LiebmanOn January 24, the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Committee on Attorneys in Public Service presented Bennett Liebman ’74 with the 2012 Award for Excellence in Public Service. Liebman is currently the deputy secretary to Governor Andrew Cuomo for gaming and racing. Liebman has also previously served as the executive director of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School, counsel for the New York State Assembly Racing and Waging Committee, and commissioner of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.

The Award for Excellence in Public Service is given annually to individuals who, according to the award criteria, “epitomize a commitment to the highest and noblest calling afforded by the legal profession: to preserve and protect the public. Their efforts must demonstrate a commitment to service, honor and integrity.” Liebman was one of four recipients of this year’s award. Also honored were: Stephen Brooks, former general counsel of the Interest on Lawyer Account Fund; Marian W. Payson, U.S. magistrate judge; and Carol Van Scoyoc, chief deputy corporation counsel of the City of White Plains.
