Halbertal's article selected as one of 2009's best by New York Times columnist David Brooks

On December 28, Gruss Professor of Law Moshe Halbertal’s article “The Goldstone Illusion” was selected by New York Times columnist David Brooks as one of the best magazine pieces of 2009, earning Halbertal a Sidney Award. Each year Brooks devotes his year-end column to the Sidney Awards, celebrating the best “long-form articles that have narrative drive and social impact.” The piece, published in the New Republic, analyzed the Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict (better known as "The Goldstone Report"), which was written by a United Nations commission led by Judge Richard Goldstone. Brooks praised Halbertal’s thoughtful and thorough examination of the moral quandaries inherent in the Israeli invasion in Gaza.
