Ryan Goodman joins Department of State Advisory Committee on International Law

Ryan Goodman, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Professor of Law, has accepted an invitation to join the U.S. Department of State Advisory Committee on International Law. The committee is composed of professors, practitioners, and policymakers who advise Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her legal adviser, Harold Koh, on significant international law issues.

Goodman, co-chair of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, teaches the Hauser Colloquium, International Human Rights, and the International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law Scholarship Seminar. Before coming to NYU, he was the inaugural Rita E. Hauser Professor of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and director of the Human Rights Program at Harvard Law School. Goodman received his J.D. from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in sociology from Yale University. After law school, he clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is a member of the board of editors of the American Journal of International Law and the board of editors of International Theory.

José Alvarez, Herbert and Rose Rubin Professor of International Law, is also a member of the committee, which includes all former State Department legal advisers and up to 20 additional members appointed by the current legal adviser.
