The Student Lawyer Athletic Program (“SLAP”) organizes co-ed intramural athletic events that contribute to the law school’s sense of community, and the student body’s ability to network with law students at NYU and across the country.
Most games are played at the East River Parks along FDR Drive at 6th Street, a 5 minute taxi ride or 20 minute walk from the school. Games are typically played on Friday afternoons, when most students don't have class.
In the fall, SLAP organizes the popular and long-standing NYU Law co-ed flag football league. The season consists of divisional play and postseason playoffs. In fall 2017, over 150 students participated with representation from all three J.D. classes.
In the spring, SLAP runs a co-ed softball league. As with the football league, there is both a regular season and playoffs. SLAP also organizes NYU Law's participation in the UVA Law Invitational Softball Tournament, an annual event benefitting charities in Charlottesville, VA. In spring 2018, 75 NYU Law students attended this tournament, and experienced the chance to meet and network with roughly 1000 law students from over 50 law schools around the country.
SLAP also organizes several other large events each school year including the NYU All-University Games and a Super Bowl viewing party. Every year, the law school enters a team of students into the All-University Games: A popular spring semester activity open to the entire law school community in which students compete in various athletic competitions and show off their NYU Law school spirit. The SLAP Super Bowl provides a large gathering of students with the opportunity to watch the big game together while enjoying dinner and refreshments.
