Michigan AG Filed Petition to Intervene in Proceeding over Sale of Palisades Nuclear Power Plant for Decommissioning
FEBRUARY 24, 2021
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a petition to intervene in a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) proceeding over the transfer of licenses for a retiring nuclear plant and spent-fuel storage site to Holtec International for decommissioning. The petition emphasized that AG Nessel “does not believe Holtec possesses the financial qualifications or assurances necessary to complete such a risk-intensive project,” and warned that the company’s plan “endangers our environment and health, and potentially leaves our residents to bear the costs of proper cleanup.”
