Eleven AGs Submitted Testimony in Support of Legislation to Phase Out Hydrofluorocarbons

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of 11 attorneys general in submitting testimony to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee in support of the bipartisan American Innovation and Manufacturing Leadership (AIM) Act, which would initiate a 15-year phase-out of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and authorize the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish standards and regulations to facilitate the transition to climate-safe substitutes. In their testimony, the AGs highlighted the broad and diverse range of stakeholders supporting the bill, including U.S. businesses that have already invested in technologies to manufacture alternatives to HFCs, and noted that industry groups project the legislation will create 33,000 new manufacturing jobs in the U.S. The testimony also emphasized that the AIM Act will “ensure the U.S. joins the worldwide phase down of HFCs, a transition that offers enormous climate benefits,” including the avoidance of as much as a half-degree Celsius of warming by the end of the century.
