Eleven AGs Sent Letter Calling on FERC to Advance, Not Impede State Clean Energy Policies
OCTOBER 28, 2019
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey led a coalition of 11 attorneys general in sending a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) urging it to work with states that are transitioning to a clean energy future. In the letter, the AGs said that the threat from climate change and the “myriad benefits of transitioning to a cleaner energy system” have prompted their states to adopt policies to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to “promote clean energy resources such as renewable energy, distributed energy resources, energy efficiency, and demand response.” The letter highlighted the impact that FERC’s decisions have on the ability of states to meet their climate and clean energy goals, and urged FERC to “promote market design choices that appropriately recognize the rights of states under the Federal Power Act to shape their resource mixes” and to “eliminate barriers to competition” for clean energy.
