California AG Filed Comments on Flawed Risk Evaluations for Insecticide Used in Pet Treatments

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) draft human health and ecological risk assessments for fipronil, an insecticide found in many anti-flea and anti-tick treatments for pets. The comments warned that the EPA improperly dismissed the “troubling 15-year history of severe human health incidents” associated with exposure to fipronil, and highlighted California state agencies’ concerns about fipronil contamination of water resources, particularly in urban areas.
