Wired Laptop Access (Formerly known as "Roaming")
Wired Laptop Access (WLA) is an alternative to NYU Wireless that allows users to get Internet connectivity by plugging in their laptop to a network jack in any of the following locations in Vanderbilt Hall:
- Various carrels in the Law Library
- The following classrooms: 214, 216, 218, 220
- Golding Student Lounge on the 2nd floor
Wired Laptop Access is also available at NYU's Bobst Library.
Requirements:
- A laptop equipped with an ethernet network card. Most laptops have this built-in.
- A "straight-thru" network cable with an "RJ45" connector that is at least "Category 5" quality. If purchasing a cable, please make sure it is a "straight-thru" cable and not a "cross-over" cable.
This is the same equipment that is required for Resnet.
NYU Law ITS provides support for laptops with Windows 2000/XP.
To register your laptop for Wired Laptop Access, please use the online application below. A NYU Net ID and password is required to access the online application; this is the same NetID and password that is used to logon to NYU Home. Please note that the Ethernet adapter address is a required field on the application.
RESNET USERS: When you register your computer for Resnet, you also automatically get Wired Laptop Access; you do not need to fill out this application.

After submitting the application, it can take up to a week for processing. Please be patient. When it is complete you will receive a notification at your NYU email address.
