Requirements for Viewing Videos Through Blackboard

Requirements

  • Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer
  • JavaScript and Cookies enabled in Internet Explorer
  • RealPlayer 10.5 or newer OR Windows Media Player 10 or newer

To Download RealPlayer

10.5 is the preferred version of RealPlayer. You can download it from this page:

Alternatively you can download Realplayer 11 from http://www.real.com

Mac OS X is not supported at this time, however our expectation is to provide full support for the Fall semester.

To Download Windows Media Player

You can use version 10 or 11. Both are available at the following page:

Browser

All students MUST use Internet Explorer from Windows XP or Vista at this time.

To Enable JavaScript and Cookies

To Enable JavaScript:

  • In Internet Explorer 6
  • From the Tools menu, click Internet Options
  • Select the Internet icon under Select a Web content zone
  • From the Security Tab, click Custom Level
  • Scroll to Scripting
    • Active scripting, select Enable
    • Allow paste operations via script, select Enable
    • Scripting of Java applets, select Enable
  • Click OK ( Security Settings window)
  • Click OK ( Internet Options window)
  • Close all open Internet Explorer windows, then relaunch

 

  • In Internet Explorer 7
  • From the Tools menu, click Internet Options
  • Select the Internet icon under Select a Web content zone
  • From the Security Tab, click Custom Level
  • Scroll to Scripting
    • Active scripting, select Enable
  • Click OK ( Security Settings window)
  • Click Yes ( Warning dialog)
  • Click OK ( Internet Options window)
  • Close all open Internet Explorer windows, then relaunch

To Enable Cookies:

  • From the Tools menu, click Internet Options
  • From the Privacy tab, click Advanced
  • Click to enable Override automatic cookie handling
  • Click Accept under
    • First-party Cookies
    • Third-party Cookies
  • Click to enable Always allow session cookies
  • Click OK ( Advanced Privacy Settings window)
  • Click OK ( Internet Options window)
  • Close all open Internet Explorer windows, then relaunch

If you are having trouble viewing the videos, ensure that you meet the following requirements listed above.
