Computer Networks
New York University School of Law has five networks servicing
the NYU School of Law Community: Administrative Network, Public
Network, Residential Network "ResNet" and the Laptop Roaming
Network, and new this fall, Wireless Network.
Administrative Network
The Administrative
Network is a high-speed network for Faculty, Administrators
and Staff. This network allows users to browse the Internet, share
files and folders among colleagues, and print to a network printer.
Public Network
The Public Network consists of public use computers located throughout
Vanderbilt Hall (computer labs and Law Library), D'Agostino and
Mercer Residence Halls for NYU School of Law students. This network
allows students access to the Internet for browsing, research and
web based email access.
Residential Network (ResNet)
The Residential Network is a high-speed network for Law students
living in either Mercer or D'Agostino Residence Halls. This networks
allows students with a laptop or desktop computer access to the
Internet for browsing, research and web based email access from
the Residential room.
Students must register
for Residential Network, from the Residential room that was assigned
to them by New York University School of Law Housing.
Laptop Roaming Network
The Laptop Roaming Network is an extension of the public network.
This network allows Law students with a laptop access to the Internet
for browsing, research and web based email access from various laptop
roaming Internet connections located in the Law Library, Golding
lounge and some smart classrooms.
Students must register
for the Laptop Roaming Network, by completing an online registration
form.
Wireless Network
The Wireless network allows access to the internet in designated
areas by means of radio transmissions. All transmissions between
the wireless Network infrastructure and the portable device (laptop)
will be encrypted, ensuring the privacy of data.
Wireless service is available in all smart Classrooms, most areas
in the law Library, D'Agostino common area and the journals.
