Examsoft
All School of Law students taking in-class exams on their Windows-based laptops will be using Examsoft's SofTest for the Academic year 2007-2008.
Examsoft's SofTest Installation
In order to install Examsoft's SofTest on your computer, please follow these steps:
- Get online, open your browser and go to http://www.examsoft.com/nyulaw
- Click the Exam Takers link at the bottom of the page
- Enter your id and password and press the Login button. For Examsoft only:
- student id = NYU NetID
- password = last 6 digits of your University ID (id number that begins with N on the back of your NYU ID card)
- Click the Download SofTest
button
- Click the Download and Install
button
- If using Internet Explorer, the option to Run or Save will appear. Select Run. If using Mozilla Firefox, you will be asked to save the install file. Save it and then open the install file from its location (default is your desktop).
- You will see a welcome dialogue box. Click Next, then I Agree, then Next.
- Vista users will be prompted by User Account Control to allow the installation program to continue. Please do so.
- When the installation completes, select Finish.
- The SofTest Registration window will automatically open. Enter your student id and password (as above) and select Register.
- You will receive a message telling you that your registration is complete. You will also receive a confirmation email from Examsoft.
- You may be informed that files are available for download. Select Yes or No (makes no difference) and follow the instructions for downloading and taking the Mock Exam.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: I have version 8.1, or 8.0 on my laptop. Is this acceptable?
- A: NO! You must install SofTest version 8.5 to certify your laptop for Fall 2007.
- Q: I already took the Mock Exam last semester. Do I have to take it again?
- A: YES! In order to make sure the new version of the software works properly, you must take the Spring 2008 Mock Exam. (Every semester there will be another Mock Exam for you to take.
- Q: I took the Practice Exam. Does that count for exam compliance?
- A: No. The Practice Exam is different from the Spring 2008 Mock Exam. You must download and take the Spring 2008 Mock Exam and upload it to show that your computer will complete all normal exam steps in order to certify your laptop this semester.
- Q: What if I haven’t configured my laptop to access the NYU wireless network yet?
- A: We are happy to report that most law students are already configured and using wireless access here at the law school. Directions for configuring your wireless are at http://www.law.nyu.edu/technology/laptops/wireless.html
- Q: I have more than one computer. Can I certify one computer and take an in-class exam using another one?
- A: Please configure and certify a laptop that meets the minimum requirements that you plan to use to take your in-class exams.
- Q: What do I need to do to be ready for take-home exams?
- A: The only requirement for take-home exams is to have a PDF Reader installed on your machine, such as Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. You may also want to review the information at http://its.law.nyu.edu/thes
