NYU School of Law Laptop Configuration Process
All students attending classes at the Law School are required to have a laptop with wireless access. Each student is responsible for the maintenance of his or her laptop. To configure your laptop for use at the Law School and to take exams on your laptop, you need to complete the following steps:
Secure your laptop with the latest operating system updates and anti-virus software:
For PC, install Windows Updates
- Make sure that you are connected to the Internet and that you do not interfere with the laptop while windows updates are being installed.
- Ensure that the latest High Priority updates for Microsoft Windows have been installed. Updates can be found at: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
- Some updates may require you to restart Windows when updates are completed.
- Perform step one until there are no more express updates to install.
For Mac, install Mac Software updates
- Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
- Click on Apple at the top left hand side of your Menu bar.
- Click on ‘Software updates.’
- Select any new updates that are available and Click on “Install Items.”
- Restart Mac laptop if prompted when the installation of updates are completed.

Configure access to NYU’s wireless network

Install and Test Exam Software
Please make sure to follow all of the steps outlined in our instructions for Exam-taking software Installation, including:
- Install the latest version of exam software
- Take the required Qualification Exam
