Admission Requirements for the Advanced Professional Certificate in Taxation
Applicants for the Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) must hold a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from a law school that is approved by the Section on Legal Education of the American Bar Association or its foreign equivalent. They are required to have taken basic Income Taxation at the J.D. level. Those with LL.M. degrees are eligible to apply but, if offered admission, must meet prerequisite requirements at NYU School of Law before initial enrollment for the APC.
Academic admission criteria are comparable to those of the LL.M. in Taxation program. Prospective students must demonstrate professional competence and career advancement.
All courses taken as an APC student, whether for credit or as a prerequisite, must be taken for a letter grade; no pass/fail option is available. All grades received (even in prerequisite courses or in courses above and beyond the program requirements) will count toward the student's cumulative grade point average. A minimum grade point average of 2.67 is required to receive the certificate. No exceptions are made in this minimum.
