University Commencement

9:30 a.m.: Candidates admitted at Gate 4 only
9:30 a.m.: Guests admitted at Gates 2 and 6 only
10:15 a.m.: Candidates seated in their assigned school areas
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Approximate length of ceremony
The schools and colleges of New York University join together in celebrating one Commencement ceremony each year. This invitation is extended to all graduates and degree candidates for the 2008-2009 academic year. The ceremony includes a presidential address, an undergraduate and a graduate student speaker, the awarding of honorary degrees to a number of distinguished individuals, and the conferring of degrees and certificates. The program concludes with the ceremonial passing of the University torch.
Tickets to University Commencement can be ordered from Monday, March 16th through Saturday, April 25th by calling TorchTone (212-995-4747). More information regarding the University Commencement will be sent directly to you by the NYU Office of University Events, 25 West 4th Street, 5th Floor.
Note: Please be mindful that you will be seated outdoors, therefore you are reminded to dress for the elements.
**STUDENT SPEAKER AT ALL-UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT**
Deadline for All Nominations: March 12, 2009
Each school will nominate one of its students to serve as the student speaker. If interested, please answer the following questions:

What achievements make you stand out amongst his/her peers?

How are you representative of the student body?
-
What qualities make you a strong speaker?
Submit your answers to these questions, your resume (not to exceed two pages), a sample presentation statement that conveys your proposed speech topic, and letter of support from a faculty advisor, faculty member, or administrator who knows you well. This letter might also include answers to the questions:

How does the student stand out amongst his/her peers?

What academic achievements should we know about?

What leadership qualities, including community service, should

be highlighted?
