Welcome
The New York University School of Law Mentoring Program consists
of NYU School of Law student ("mentors") who are paired with "at-risk"
elementary grade students ("mentees"). The program is
designed ot provide the mentees with positive role models who can
help them attain the confidence, skills, and education necessary
to rise above their adverse socio-economic circumstances.
The mentors are law student from many different walks of life and
parts of the country. They have undertaken a variety of projects
with the mentees including individual artistic projects, group names,
study groups, field trips, holiday parties, and other activities.
Most important, mentors seek to develop with the mentees mutually
comfortable relationships that will enable the mentors to identify
and understand each mentee's individual needs and concerns.
The mentors and mentees meet for two hours on a bi-weekly basis.
Each mentor agrees to work with the same mentee throughout the mentor's
three-year law school career.
