Sasha Zolley
President
Sasha is currently in her third year of the JD/MBA program at NYU. In 2008 and 2009, she worked as a Summer Associate for Baker & McKenzie in New York. She received a B.S. in International Political Economy and a certificate in International Business Diplomacy from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 2005. Before coming to law school, Sasha worked as an economic consultant for Deloitte Tax, LLP in Washington, DC. She has also worked for a hedge fund, a housing investment trust, and the Senate Joint Economic Committee; as an assistant web developer, an economics teaching assistant, and a temporary executive assistant for non-profit, governmental and private organizations. At NYU Sasha has been involved with PREP as well as the Climate change moot team. Sasha is into all outdoor activities and tries to get in as much hiking, swimming, biking, rollerblading, skydiving, scuba diving, paintballing, skiing and rip-sticking as a law school schedule with a part time job on the side allows for.
Brett Murray
Treasurer
Brett Murray is originally from Colorado. He graduated from the University of San Diego in 2008, where he studied Business Administration, Spanish, and English. Brett came to NYU Law directly from college, and has held internships in real-estate redevelopment, wealth management, and law. He spent the summer after his 1L year at the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance, a fund and trade association. At NYU, Brett is involved in the Law and Social Entrepreneurship Association and the JD/MBA Association. He enjoys tennis, snowboarding, hiking, surfing, and travel. Brett is a candidate for the JD/MBA (’12) dual degree.
Mike Reczek
JD/MBA Advisor
Michael is in his final year of the JD/MBA program at New York University. Most recently, he worked at Schultze Asset Management, a hedge fund in New York with a US distressed securities strategy, where he analyzed potential investments in companies approaching, emerging from, or currently in bankruptcy. Prior to that, Michael was a summer associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis where he focused primarily on restructuring and corporate assignments. In addition, Michael worked in the Product Structuring/Legal Group of Blackstone Alternative Asset Management during the summer of 2007 and throughout his second and third years of school. While at Blackstone, Michael prepared legal reviews of hedge fund offering documents and assisted in the development of liquidity analysis tools. Prior to attending NYU, Michael graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology.
Katherine Chung
Spring Break Trip Coordinator
Katherine Chung is a JD/MBA candidate for 2011 and is currently entering her third year in the program. She is from Chicago, IL and received her BA in Economics from the University of Chicago. In 2009, she had the opportunity to spend the summer at Hughes, Hubbard, & Reed and primarily worked with the corporate department. Prior to attending NYU, she was a Senior Analyst at Archstone Consulting, where she worked in a variety of industries, including consumer product goods, quick restaurant service, heavy equipment manufacturing, and industrial distribution. She also provided a range of services, including strategic advice, operations network analysis, and strategic sourcing.
Caroline Nguyen
Events Coordinator
Caroline graduated from Princeton, majoring in Economics with minors in Finance and Applied Math. After graduation, she worked at First Manhattan Consulting Group, providing advice to commercial banks on risk-based performance measurement, and had the opportunity to work for four months with Commonwealth Bank in Australia. Caroline is pursuing a JD/MBA ('12) and is interested in international law and business. This summer she spent one month interning for Citigroup's legal department in London, and one month traveling to Vietnam and Southeast Asia. In her spare time, Caroline enjoys taking photos, swing dancing, and practicing her Vietnamese and French.
Jason Merker
Events Coordinator
Jason is a 2011 J.D. candidate at NYU School of Law and is applying to Stern this year. Before law school, Jason spent several years working in real estate and debt finance. He was a development associate at Clark Realty Capital in Washington DC, working on the privatization and development of military family housing. Subsequently he worked for Natixis Capital Markets in their Real Estate Group focusing on originating, underwriting and securitizing commercial real estate debt. Jason graduated from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University where he majored in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management. Last summer he worked for NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. He enjoys hiking, swimming, biking, live music and exploring New York.
Rich Powell
Alumni & Career Coordinator
Rich is a 2010 J.D. candidate at NYU School of Law. He spent his 2L summer at the DC office of Sullivan & Cromwell and the New York office of McKinsey & Co. During his 1L summer, he interned with the legal department of GE Capital. Before law school, Rich spent two years working on climate change issues with organizations that represented Arctic indigenous peoples. Rich hopes to pursue a career in cleantech, with a focus on energy. He graduated from Harvard College in 2005, where he concentrated in Environmental Science and Public Policy. Rich is a commercial pilot and loves hot air ballooning over the Endless Mountains in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Sam Welt
Website Developer
Sam is in his second year of the JD/MBA program. He graduated from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta, with a concentration in Finance and Consulting & New Venture Management. This past summer, Sam worked at NYSE Regulation in the Division of Enforcement, where he supported investigation and prosecution of member companies for violations of NYSE rules and federal securities laws and regulations. Prior to law school, he worked at Ernst & Young in the Business Advisory Services group as a consultant, focusing on process analysis and improvement projects with various clients.
