HIV Law Society

The HIV Law Society focuses on the role of law in the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. Students participating in the HIV Law Society have the opportunity to conduct legal intake clinics at Housing Works, a prominent non-profit in the New York City area that has served HIV-positive clients since 1990.

The HIV Law Society also hosts speakers and events that raise awareness of HIV-related legal issues, often partnering with other student groups to demonstrate the intersection of these issues with other areas of law.  Plans for the 2010-2011 school year include a policy panel, a brown bag lunch with an HIV/AIDS activist, a finals study break on World AIDS Day (December 1st), and participation in AIDS Walk New York in May 2011.  In the spring, we will partner with the NYU Public Interest Law Center (PILC) to co-sponsor a Leaders in Public Interest lecture.

If you would like to get involved with the HIV Law Society, please contact Jessica Borowick (jb3446@nyu.edu), Ryan Flaherty (rmf344@nyu.edu), or Chris Kochevar (ck1274@nyu.edu).  An introductory meeting and Housing Works training will be held on September 16 from 6:00-8:00pm in Vanderbilt 202.

The website for Housing Works may be found at www.housingworks.org.
