Academic Attire

Deadline to place your online order: April 1, 2016

Degree candidates who wish to participate in Convocation and/or Commencement are required to wear academic attire.  Rental attire costs $83.00 and includes the rental of a gown, hood, tam (cap), and tassel.

The Office of Student Affairs works closely with Herff Jones to have your attire order delivered to the Law School for your convenience.  Those who miss the deadline will have to visit Coles Sports and Recreation Center and wait in line with other NYU schools' graduating candidates.  Coles is located at 181 Mercer Street between Bleecker and Houston Streets.

If you plan to attend both ceremonies - the All-University Commencement at Yankee Stadium and the Law School Convocation at the Beacon Theatre - YOU MUST hold onto your academic attire at the conclusion of the All-University Commencement ceremony on May 18, 2016.  This is the same attire you will wear the following day to your Convocation ceremony on May 19, 2016.

By placing your order on the Herff Jones website by April 1, 2016, you will be eligible to pick up your attire during the Graduation Station in Golding Lounge East during the following dates and times:

If you miss the April 1, 2016 deadline, you must place and pick up a late order starting May 12, 2016 during regular distribution hours.  Attire will be held at the Barrie Dance Studio on the first floor of Jerome S. Coles Sport Center, located at 181 Mercer Street.  A representative from Herff Jones will be available to take and fill your late order in one transaction.  All late orders must be paid by cash or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).

No academic attire will be distributed after 4:00 p.m.

Please understand that the rental firm might have to make substitutions to fill late orders.

If the degree candidate lives out of state or cannot pick up academic attire at the times allotted, a designee may pick up the academic attire providing the following documentation is presented:

  • Photocopy of graduating candidate's ID
  • A signed letter from the degree candidate authorizing attire pick-up
  • A copy of the online order confirmation
  • Photocopy of the ID of the person picking up the attire

Representatives from Herff Jones will be onsite at the Beacon Theatre to collect your academic attire at the conclusion of the Convocation ceremony. Students who do not return their attire immediately after the Convocation ceremony will be responsible for shipping it at their own expense to:
