Convocation Attire

Degree candidates who wish to participate in Convocation and/or Commencement are required to wear academic attire.  Rental Attire costs $79.00 and includes the rental of a gown, tam, hood and tassel.

The Office of Student Affairs works closely with Herff Jones to have your attire order delivered here to the Law School for your convenience.  For those who miss the deadline you will have to go to Coles in person and wait in line with other NYU schools graduating candidates.


If you plan to attend both ceremonies--the All University Commencement at Yankee stadium and Law School Convocation at Madison Square Garden--YOU MUST hold onto your academic attire at the conclusion of the All University Commencement ceremony on May 21, 2014.  This is the same attire you will wear to the Convocation ceremony on May 22, 2014.


By placing your order on the Herff Jones website by April 4, 2014, you will be eligible to pick up your attire in Golding Lounge East during the following dates and times:

          Monday, May 5 through Thursday, May 8, from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

          Friday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

If you miss the April 4 deadline, you must place and pick-up a late order starting May 15, during regular distribution hours.  Go to the Barrie Dance Studio, on the first floor of Jerome S. Coles Sport Center, located at 181 Mercer Street.  A Representative of Herff Jones, Inc., will be available to take and fill your late order in one transaction.  All late orders must be paid by cash or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover).

 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

 May 20

 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (last possible pick-up time)


Please understand that the rental firm might have to make substitutions to fill late orders.


If the degree candidate lives out of state or cannot pick up academic attire at the times allotted, a third party may pick up the academic attire providing the following documentation is presented:

  • Photocopy of graduating candidate's ID
  • A signed letter from the degree candidate authorizing attire pick-up
  • A copy of the online order confirmation
  • Photocopy of the ID of the person picking up the attire


Representatives from Herff Jones will be on site at Madison Square Garden to collect your academic attire at the conclusion of the Convocation ceremony. Students who do not return their attire concluding the Convocation ceremony will be responsible for shipping it at their own expense to:
