Computation of Credit Hours
Please note according to ABA rules, 750 minutes of class instruction (excluding breaks but including exam time) over a 15 week period is equal to one Law School credit. To calculate the allocation of credits: divide the total number of class meeting minutes and exam time in the semester by 750 (round down to the nearest quarter credit). In addition faculty are expected to assign out of class work equivalent to 60 minutes for every hour of class time in a particular class.
For seminars, simulations, clinics, externships, journals, moot court, and directed research or other such courses where student learning will take place via independent work outside of the classroom, faculty must assign an equivalent amount of work to approximate the 750 minutes of in-class instruction and 60 minutes of out of class instruction for every hour of class time in a particular class.
