American Law Institute elects five NYU Law alumni and faculty

On October 21, the American Law Institute (ALI) announced the election of 50 new members. Among the exceptional group of judges, lawyers, and legal academics were the following Law School alumni and faculty:

  • Professor Jill Manny, executive director of the National Center on Philanthropy and the Law
Florencia Marotta-Wurgler

The five inductees join ALI’s over 4,000 distinguished members as they draft, discuss, revise, and publish Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law. Supporting ALI’s mission to improve the law, these documents have a strong influence on the courts and legal scholarship.

“Combining diversity of experience and place, and uniform intellectual excellence in our membership has been the American Law Institute’s greatest strength. Our new membership class exemplifies that great tradition,” said ALI President Roberta Cooper Ramo in the press release. “I look forward to seeing the great contribution that these new members will make.”

Earlier this year, Richard Revesz, Lawrence King Professor of Law and dean emeritus, became the director of the institute. On October 21, he addressed the US Chamber of Commerce during the Institute for Legal Reform’s annual summit; his talk focused on ALI’s goals and the development of Restatements.
