David Boies (LL.M. ’67) to appear in upcoming HBO documentary on Prop 8

HBO announced that next year it will air a documentary about Hollingsworth v. Perry, the case that successfully challenged Proposition 8, California’s ban on same-sex marriage. Arguing against Proposition 8 were co-litigators NYU Law Trustee David Boies (LL.M. ’67) and Theodore Olson, a member of the Dwight D. Opperman Institute of Judicial Administration’s board of directors. The documentary’s directors, Ben Cotner and Ryan White, had exclusive access to Boies and Olson’s legal team and the lives of the plaintiffs.

In a statement, Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said that the “story of the battle to overturn Prop 8 is the story of a modern-day American revolution. HBO is proud to present what is intended to be the film of record on this landmark case.”
