Graduate Academic Affairs

The Office of Graduate Affairs is specifically designed to serve the particular needs of our graduate students, as well as our foreign student populations in our exchange programs and our Diploma program. This office advises on all inquiries from LL.M.,  Diploma, and exchange students pertaining to current course schedules, completion of requirements, earning the degree or diploma, and requests for optional practical training. Working in close collaboration with the Hauser Global Law School Program, our office also aims to support these constituencies programmatically throughout their studies.

For any issue concerning the academic aspects of your LL.M. program, your first point of counseling should be Barbara Landress, Director Office of Graduate Affairs. You may contact her at GraduateAffairs@exchange.law.nyu.edu or visit her in Furman Hall, Suite 340 on Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Barbara will see students on a walk-in basis when available during these times. You may also schedule an appointment to meet with her. Please email GraduateAffairs@exchange.law.nyu.edu or call 212 998 6015 to schedule an appointment. Please note students in the Graduate Tax Program should direct inquiries to John Stephens, Director Graduate Tax Program at 212 998 6394 or john.stephens@nyu.edu.

Barbara will normally resolve all issues of the ‘what can I do’ nature in terms of the rules and regulations of the LL.M. program. Sometimes however your questions do not concern the ‘what can I do’ in terms of rules and regulations but ‘what choices would be advisable’ in terms of workload, compatibility of courses, career perspectives etc. To help address those issues, students may also wish to consult Mary Holland, and Irene Ayers, who teach Introduction to U.S. Law and U.S. Legal Methodology. Your first point of contact, however, should always be the Office of Graduate Affairs. We also want to remind you that some issues are best resolved by the Faculty Director of the specialized program you may be in, such as corporation law, trade regulation, etc. We advise you that if you email the Faculty Director of the program with any questions, you should also copy GraduateAffairs@exchange.law.nyu.edu on such queries just in case there is a "rules and regulations" angle to your question.
