Language Courses in the College of Arts and Science

Each semester, 50 full-time students will be able to register (the first 50 requests will be processed) for a foreign language course in the College of Arts and Science (CAS) using a request form; Albert is not available for these courses. These language classes are limited to beginning, elementary, intermediate, and advanced classes in the College of Arts and Science. The program is not open to language and literature courses or other types of disciplines combined. For language course offerings and schedules, consult the Directory of Classes for the College of Arts and Science, available online at www.nyu.edu/registrar. If a class is full, you will not be registered for the same. No permission from a language professor, language department, or chairperson may override this.

Visit the Language Courses in the College of Arts and Science section of the Records and Registration web site for complete information.

Other Divisions at the University

LL.M. students can only enroll in a total of 6 credits of non-law courses which may be counted towards the LL.M. degree. The request form must already be signed by the Faculty Director before submitting it to the Office of Graduate Affairs. In some cases, permission of the professor may also be required.

LL.M. students must comply with requirements of the particular program in which they are enrolled and should be aware of requirements for bar examinations in U.S. jurisdictions. For example, New York requires as one route to qualification for taking the bar examination “a minimum of 20 semester hours of credit…in professional law subjects…in an approved law school in the U.S.” Section 520.6 (b) (1) (ii), Rules of the New York Court of Appeals. Please note that non-law graduate courses, including Stern Business classes, do not qualify within the 20 credits.

For further information visit the Registration Procedures for Course in Other Divisions at the Univeristy section of the Records and Registration web site.
