A global legal education for a 21st-century career
We are pleased you are interested in graduate study at NYU School of Law. The premise of our approach to graduate legal education is that no matter where in the world or what area of law, our graduates will practice in a global environment. We have designed the curriculum to sensitize our graduate students to the normative and professional challenges globalization entails and to equip them with the relevant tools to enable them to approach the law in a more encompassing, universally-aware manner. Students benefit from an unmatched selection of courses, seminars, practical experiences and opportunities to engage in intellectual projects with faculty at the highest level. All this takes place in the Graduate Division, which is among the largest and most intellectually diverse in the nation.
NYU’s primary graduate degree is the Master of Laws, and students have the option to apply for study in New York City and in Singapore. In New York, prospective students may choose between the traditional LL.M. program, which enables students to develop expertise in virtually any combination of courses and fields they wish, and our eight acclaimed specialized LL.M. programs, including two new programs in environmental law and international business regulation, litigation and arbitration. While most students attend full-time, some programs are available on a part-time basis for practicing lawyers.
In Singapore, we offer an innovative dual LL.M. degree program located at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and predominately taught by NYU School of Law faculty. Full-time students earn the NYU LL.M. in Law and the Global Economy, with optional concentrations in U.S. and Asian Business and Trade Law and Justice and Human Rights. The completion of the NYU master’s counts toward a second LL.M. from NUS, providing a foothold in the Asian legal market.
The Law School also offers the following degrees and certificates:
- Doctor of Juridical Science: a doctoral degree program that provides intensive training in academic research for those intending to pursue a career in academia.
- Executive LL.M. in Taxation: a primarily online course of part-time study for U.S. and foreign-trained lawyers.
- Master of Studies in Law: a Law School master’s for the advanced exploration of law and Jewish civilization designed for those with and without a prior law degree.
- Advanced Professional Certificate in Taxation: a certificate that offers direct access to a focused curriculum of advanced tax courses.
- Advanced Professional Certificate in Law and Business: a certificate for business lawyers from the NYU Stern School of Business, completed in conjunction with the LL.M. degree.
