Graduate Admissions

How to Apply

All prospective students applying to any degree or certificate program offered in the Graduate Division, whether interested in study in Singapore, in New York City, or online, must use the NYU School of Law Graduate Online application available at the Office of Graduate Admissions Web site (application fee: $75). Prospective students are permitted to apply for only one degree or certificate program during an annual application cycle (September to June).

We prefer that the application fee be paid online using an American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit card. However, if you are unable to pay your application fee online, you may mail your fee with the Payment Identification Form (accessible from the online application) using an international money order, or check drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to New York University in U.S. dollars. Do not send cash or traveler’s checks.

Application fees are non-refundable and will not be credited toward your tuition if offered admission. NYU School of Law does not waive application fees to the Graduate Division.

LL.M. Programs in New York City and Singapore
Applicants may apply to study in New York City, in Singapore, or in both cities. Applicants who apply to both programs must indicate their preference between the two programs. The Committee on Graduate Admissions will attempt to honor an applicant’s preference as to location of study and to place admitted LL.M. applicants in their preferred location. If an applicant is admitted to his or her preferred location, the Committee cannot guarantee consideration for his or her second-choice location. It is possible, however, that the Committee will admit an applicant to his or her second-choice location.

Scholarship opportunities are available in both New York City and Singapore. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, and the criteria for scholarship awards are the same for programs in New York City and in Singapore. Due to a generous donation marking the inception of NYU@NUS, there is more funding available for students studying in Singapore. Therefore, for qualified applicants whose first preference is NYU@NUS, there is a greater chance of receiving a scholarship than for those who indicate a preference for New York City. The Committee will offer admission and scholarship awards for NYU@NUS on a rolling basis. The Committee will begin finalizing decisions before the application deadline making subsequent offers only if space in the program and scholarship funds remain available. Therefore, NYU@NUS applicants are encouraged to submit their applications and all required application materials as early as possible. Additionally, preference for scholarship awards will be given to those students pursuing the second LL.M. from NUS, which is offered to all students with no additional fees.

Applicants to New York City must choose the traditional LL.M. program or one of the follow specializations: Corporation Law; International Legal Studies; International Taxation; Legal Theory; Environmental Law; International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration; Taxation or Trade Regulation. Admission and scholarship decisions for study in New York City will be released in early to mid-March, without preference as to date of application.

Applicants to NYU@NUS will pursue an LL.M. in Law and the Global Economy and may choose the general LL.M. in Law and the Global Economy or an optional concentration in either U.S. and Asian Business and Trade Law or Justice and Human Rights. Please note NYU@NUS students may elect a concentration but are not required to do so. Those admitted to NYU@NUS also simultaneously will pursue an NUS LL.M. degree. Although the Committee on Admissions at NUS will review and evaluate applications to NYU@NUS for purposes of admission to the NUS LL.M. program, it is very likely that those admitted to the NYU LL.M. in Singapore will be admitted to the NUS LL.M. degree program. Additionally, all admitted students to NYU@NUS are jointly considered for available scholarships by the NYU and NUS committees. The NYU School of Law Graduate Online Application is sufficient to be considered for both the NYU and NUS LL.M. degrees.

J.S.D. Program
Applicants to the J.S.D. should indicate on the online application if they wish to be considered for admission to the full-time LL.M. program in New York City in the event they are not admitted to the J.S.D. degree.  However, admission to the LL.M. program does not assure admission to J.S.D. candidacy.
