Library Tours

One-hour library tours: General tours of the library are scheduled to acquaint new transfer, non-matriculated, LL.M. and Tax LL.M. students with our collections, services, and our physical and electronic environments.

Specialized tours, which focus on the sources used to research tax laws and regulations, are available for Tax LL.M. & International Tax LL.M. students. Students who take a special tour do not need to take a general tour as well, but they may, if the tax tours do not fit into their schedules.

Tours will begin August 30th at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Circulation Desk, and will continue through September 7th. Please check the Calendar on the library home page, and sign up in advance in the binder at the Reference Desk in the Main Reading Room.

Law Library Web Site

The Law Library Web site, http://www.law.nyu.edu/library/, contains valuable information, research tools and links to databases. For example, the Calendar, on the left under Library Services, includes schedules of tours and training sessions; on the right under Research you will find the Julius Online Catalog, links to Indexes & Databases, helpful Research Guides, information on how to access our databases off site, and much more.

Checking Out Books

New students must be registered in the library's patron database in order to check out books. Simply go to the Circulation Desk in the Main Reading Room with your N.Y.U. ID card, have your barcode scanned, and collect your gift from the library. Returning students, please go to the Circulation Desk to update your contact information.

Reference Desk

Research in International Law

For an introduction to finding treaties and other sources of public international law, please make an appointment either with Mirela Roznovschi, by email at roznovschi@juris.law.nyu.edu or call (212) 998-6290; or with Jeanne Rehberg, at jeanne.rehberg@nyu.edu or (212) 998-6601.

The link to Foreign & Int'l. Databases and several of the Research Guides on the law library Web page will provide you with valuable research assistance.

LexisNexis & Westlaw Training, Passwords & Registration

Training

The schedule of training sessions will be posted on each company's Web site, http://www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool/ and http://lawschool.westlaw.com/ as well as on the Calendar on the library's Web page. Please sign up for classes online.

Student LexisNexis and Westlaw representatives will keep scheduled office hours throughout the year outside Lenley Computer Lab, to answer questions and provide refresher training sessions.

Passwords

Each system requires a password. The library provides passwords for N.Y.U. School of Law faculty, staff and students, for educational purposes only. Passwords will be available from the LexisNexis and Westlaw representatives at special tables set up in the Main Reading Room for several weeks early in the semester, or, when they are not here, from the student representatives who staff the desk outside Lenley Computer Lab.

J.D. 2Ls & 3Ls should have active passwords from previous years. Please update your registration information online (see below). Refresher training sessions are available upon request from the student representatives.

Transfer & non-matriculated students must obtain a new password at N.Y.U. School of Law, at the tables or outside Lenley Lab. Passwords from your former law school may work temporarily, but your print jobs will be delivered to the laser printer at your former school. Refresher training sessions are available upon request from the student representatives.

Tax & International Tax LL.M.s will receive passwords during specialized training sessions in tax-related databases that begin early in the fall semester (schedule to be announced); passwords will also be available at the tables, or outside Lenley Lab.

Non-tax LL.M.s will receive passwords during training sessions that begin in mid-September (schedule to be announced); passwords will also be available at the tables, or outside Lenley Lab.

Foreign-trained LL.M.s will receive passwords and initial training during the Introduction to American Law course. LexisNexis training will be held on August 21st and Westlaw on August 22nd. If, for some reason, there is a conflict with these times, see the representative at the tables in the library or outside Lenley Lab.

Your passwords must be registered or updated with LexisNexis and Westlaw.
