2008 Immigration Law Moot Court Competition
The Third Annual Immigration Law Moot Court Competition concluded on February 24, 2008. Thirteen teams from around the country came to NYU School of Law to participate in the three-day oral argument event. The double-issue problem, written by members of the NYU Moot Court Board, presented difficult questions about the statutory rights of aliens in removal proceedings.
The final argument took place before an renowned panel of judges with considerable experience handling current issues of immigration law: Judge John Walker from the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Judge Emilio Garza from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Judge George Kazen from the Southern District of Texas. It was an extremely close argument, with Julia Wiley and Julie Schwartz from the University of California-Davis narrowly defeating Claire Parsons and Brent Asseff from the University of Louisville.
