Law Review

Members' Responsibilities

Law Review requires a two-year commitment from all members. Second-year members of the Law Review are Staff Editors. The duties of Staff Editors include the following:

  • Six hours of office hours per week completing proofreads, Article selection, and various other tasks.
  • Cite and Substance Checks (C&S), during which a Staff Editor carefully edits a section of a Note or an Article, verifying the accuracy of citations.
  • We also expect each Staff Editor to write a Note, which may be done as independent research or in connection with a seminar.

Second-year members must be available for Orientation, an intense training and work week which usually takes place the week before EIW. Members may not go abroad during their 2L academic year, although they may in their third year. They are also expected to perform journal work during the summer between their second and third years.

In the 3L year, members choose among a number of editorial board positions. Those interested in taking one of a small number of leadership positions at the Law Review may find significant outside commitments difficult. The Editor-in-Chief is required to be in New York during the summer between his/her second and third years
