How to Apply

The priority deadline for all programmatic scholarships is December 1, and all scholarship applications must be submitted no later than January 1.  You are strongly encouraged to have a complete CAS report ready to be requested by the admissions office by December 1, and no later than January 1.

Scholarship applicants must:

  • Submit a one-page essay of no more than 500 words, with the JD application, addressing one's interest in serving the needs of Latino communities. Please clearly identify your scholarship essay.
  • Read and complete the appropriate section of the JD application.

Each Latinx Rights Scholar selected receives a grant (without regard to financial need) in the amount of full tuition. Many scholars apply for federal or private student loans to cover living expenses. The selection committee considers the academic achievement and promise of applicants carefully. The committee also considers a candidate’s demonstrated commitment to public service in Latinx communities and his or her potential for leadership.

The Law School values diversity and strives to select scholars that are diverse in terms of race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, geographic origins, and ideology. We consider personal/family history of educational or socio-economic disadvantage and we seek to enroll students from a broad spectrum of society including members of all groups under-represented in the profession. Based on a preliminary screening, candidates will be invited to the Law School for interviews with a panel chaired by a federal judge, a faculty member, distinguished alumni, and current Latinx Rights Scholars.

Finalists are expected to be available for an interview on a date to-be-determined (sometime generally during March/early April). Scholarship offers will be made shortly after the interviews. Awardees should be prepared to respond to these offers within three business days
