1. Study Breaks during Exams 2. Finals Party 3. Donations to Building Staff 4. Project Finance Committee 5. Proposed Changes to Writing Requirements Hey y'all, check this out: 1. SBA will host two "study breaks" during Finals in order to help make sure your body gets some dank nourishment. Please join us for Grey Dog yummies on Thursday December 15th and Wednesday 21st at noon in Golding. 2. The end-of-the semester party will be held at B-Bar at 10pm on Thursday, December 22. We have a substantial tab to start out the night, but come on time so that your colleagues' substantial appetites don't preclude you getting your free drink 3. Residents of D'Ag and Mercer have probably already gotten a letter explaining the Residential Life holiday fund. SBA encourages you to consider contributing to those folks who work on your behalf every day and night; the fund is administered so as to allow all employees to receive an equal gift even though you may have more interaction with some than with others. 4. The Project Finance Committee of the City Bar Association is looking for one or more law school student participants who would be interested in 1) attending our sessions and 2) helping one or more of the program teams to develop materials for use in our upcoming presentations (of course, additional activities/ideas are always under consideration). Pleas contact Student Affairs if you're interested. 5. The Writing Requirement Committee has been hard at work this semester developing a draft proposal to change the writing requirement. I want to thank Joey Nicchitta and Wangui Kaniaru for their generosity and service representing students' perspectives on the committee. Rather than attaching the entire 10-page proposal to this email, I will summarize the proposal. After reviewing this outline, please do not hesitate to let us know at law.sba@nyu.edu if you have any questions or concerns. Student feedback will be compiled over break and submitted to the Committee for consideration. Basically, instead of having separate A and B requirements, the proposed system would instead require each student to write two papers similar to the current A-paper requirement. The process would be somewhat simplified so that faculty are not quite involved with the editing process but rather provide substantial feedback on the final draft. In order to accommodate this, every seminar would have a writing option, and journal publications would still satisfy one of the requirements. Let us hear your thoughts. Take it easy, good luck with finals, and have an awesome vacation, Oliver Carter
