Discount Program

New York University School of Law has offered a Summer Rent Discount program to its students since 1992. Summer rent discounts will be made available to qualifying NYU School of Law students and 2014 graduates.

Only current NYU School of Law students (Current JD1's and JD2's and graduating students) are eligible for the Summer Rent Discount Program.

Summer Housing Discounts

NYU School of Law students and 2014 graduates who will live in a School of Law residence for 8-10 weeks during the summer 2014 term and will be employed at least 35 hours per week during this time, please read the following additional guidelines.

NYU School of Law students may apply for a $64 weekly pro rata discount if:
• they will work for a minimum of eight weeks as either a research assistant to a NYU School of Law professor or as a public interest intern (during the summer term)
OR
• they are a first- or second-year (Class of 2016 or 2015) NYU School of Law student who will work as a summer judicial clerk (during the summer term)
AND
• they will be compensated less than $1500 for their work during this period (during the summer term)

NYU School of Law students may apply for a $36 weekly pro rata discount if:
• they are working for a minimum of eight weeks as either a research assistant to a NYU professor or a public interest intern (during the summer term)
OR
• they are a first- or second-year (Class of 2016 or 2015) NYU School of Law student who will work as a summer judicial clerk (during the summer term)
AND
• they are being compensated $1500 or more for their work during this period (during the summer term)

NYU School of Law students may apply for a $36 weekly pro rata discount if:
• they are a graduating NYU School of Law student who will work as a public interest lawyer in September 2014
AND
• they plan to live in a NYU School of Law residence as they study for the July 2014 bar exam.

Rent discounts are not available for graduating students with judicial clerkships.

 

Early Arrival Discounts

NYU School of Law students who have a confirmed fall 2014 Academic Year Housing Assignment who will not live in a School of Law residence during the summer 2014 term and are employed at least 35 hours per week during the summer term, please read the following additional guidelines.

NYU School of Law students may apply for a 1 week, $64 discount if:
• they will work for a minimum of eight weeks as either a research assistant to a NYU School of Law professor or as a public interest intern (during the summer term)
OR
• they are first- or second-year (Class of 2016 or 2015) NYU School of Law student who will work as a summer judicial clerk (during the summer term)
AND (all qualifications must be met)
• they will be compensated less than $1500 for their work during this period (during the summer term)
• they will not be living in Law School residence for the summer
• they have a confirmed 2014-15 Academic Year Housing Assignment
• they will be arriving early (at least 1 week early) to take part in Early Interview Week

NYU School of Law students may apply for a 1 week, $36 discount if:
• they will work for a minimum of eight weeks as either a research assistant to a NYU School of Law professor or as a public interest intern (during the summer term)
OR
• they are a first- or second-year (Class of 2016 or 2015) NYU School of Law student who will work as a summer judicial clerk (during the summer term)
AND (all qualifications must be met)
• they will be compensated $1500 or more for their work during that period (during the summer term)
• they will not be living in Law School residence for the summer
• they have a confirmed 2014-15 Academic Year Housing Assignment
• they will be arriving early (at least 1 week early) to take part in Early Interview Week

To apply, please complete the Summer Rent Discount Application and submit a letter from your employer, on your summer employer's letterhead , which affirms that you will be employed at least 35 hours per week, describes your duties and the dates of your employment, and verifies the compensation you will receive during that period. The Public Interest Law Center (PILC) Summer Funding are considered compensation when applying for this discount.

 

The discount, for all who qualify, will be processed in late August.

Application Deadline

The Summer Rent Discount application and employment verification letter must be submitted to the Office of Residential Life, 240 Mercer Street, New York, NY 10012, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014. 

No Summer Rent Discount Applications or employment verifications will be accepted after 5 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014.

Late and/or incomplete applications will not be processed.
