The new rules for foreign-trained LL.M. students taking the Bar exam in July 2013 or later can be found here. NYU Law classes that meet the new requirements are here. Students who have studied law in a foreign country should also review the information posted at the New York State Board of Law Examiners Web site.
Note that foreign-trained lawyers must complete an online Foreign Evaluation Form available at the Board of Law Examiners (BOLE) Web site before applying to sit for the New York Bar Examination. We strongly suggest that students complete this form before starting the LL.M. program. During the Spring semester, students may then apply to sit for the New York Bar examination, by submitting an application form available at the same Web site.
While no one at NYU School of Law can speak on behalf of the Court of Appeals, we try to guide students through the bar examination process. However, students should consult the Board of Law Examiners' Web site and follow carefully the instructions posted there, as the Board is the authority in this matter.
