University of Sydney (Australia)
Up to four NYU Law students (two in the fall semester, two in the spring semester) may participate in the exchange program with Sydney each academic year. With more than 100 years of teaching and research experience, the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney is the premier law school in Australia. Students in the exchange program may choose courses from a wide array of electives. The Sydney Law Faculty places particular emphasis on international and comparative law, and maintains a strong profile in taxation, corporate and criminal law, and specializes in areas such as environmental and health law.
Sydney will assist NYU students in securing adequate accommodations. Living expenses are estimated at $220 USD per week, including rent.
Sydney, a multicultural and cosmopolitan city, is a short distance to many beaches. It is bounded to the north and south by national parks, and to the west by the majestic Blue Mountains. The Law Faculty at St. James campus is located in the heart of the business and legal district, and houses one of Australia's leading law libraries.
The program at Sydney is divided into two sessions: February 24 to July 3 (Semester 1) and July 20 to November 20 (Semester 2). Students interested in participating in this program will have to adjust their summer work schedules accordingly, since both semesters at Sydney run through the summer months. Students going in the fall semester would have to miss the Early Interview Week, or come back to participate.
In conjunction with the Centre for Asian and Pacific Law, Sydney Law School also offers Winter School programs in Hanoi (December 1 to December 22) and Shanghai (December 29 to January 18). Both of these programs are taught in English and run for three weeks, and provide an intense introduction to either Vietnamese or Chinese Law and legal systems.
