Teach for America/Dewey & LeBoeuf Emerging Leaders Scholarship
Teach For America is a national corps of outstanding and diverse recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in the nation's most under-served urban and rural schools and become lifelong leaders to expand educational opportunity. Currently, Teach For America has nearly 4,400 corps members teaching approximately 375,000 children in 25 different regions across the country.
Teach For America, Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP and the New York University School of Law have teamed up to award a scholarship in the amount of $40,000 to a deserving exiting corps member or alumnus/a attending the Law School. The recipient of the scholarship will be expected to use part of his or her law school experience to expand educational opportunity for children in under-resourced neighborhoods by furthering his or her knowledge of this issue.
The scholarship recipient will choose how best to pursue education-related causes in accordance with his or her interests. During January of his or her third year of law school ,Dewey & LeBoeuf will ask the recipient to write a short essay to inform the firm of what he or she has been doing to engage in this cause.
Applicants may apply for the Teach For America/Dewey& LeBoeuf Emerging Law Leaders Scholarship by signing the appropriate statement on page 4 of the J.D. application. Interested applicants should also submit a one-page essay of no more than 500 words, with the J.D. application. The essay should explain why you are interested in using your law school experience to advocate for the elimination of educational inequality. The scholarship offer will be made in mid-April and the awardee should be prepared to respond to the offer within seven business days.
