Older Wiser Law Students
OWLS (Older Wiser Law Students) is an organization for older students, second-career students, and students who in any other way depart from the mold of the "traditional" law student. All students are welcome to join.
Dormant for some years, the group re-formed in Spring 2004, and plans to continue and expand the work begun last year. OWLS is planning brown-bag lunches with OWLS alumni to discuss topics of interest to second-career students, as well as a formal luncheon and panel discussion later in the year. We are also convening committees to meet with OCS, Financial Aid, and other NYU departments to discuss and improve areas of particular interest to our members.
On the social front, we host coffee and doughnut study breaks during finals week, as well as conversational cocktail parties that cater to a post-kegger sensibility. For orientation we will visit a nearby pool hall, and later in the year we are hosting a combination dance lesson/salsa evening.
OWLS is led (and we use that term loosely) by a volunteer board with no hierarchical structure or defined roles.
