Legal AIDS
Legal AIDS focuses on how the law plays a significant part in the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. To understand local issues, students participating in Legal AIDS have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects at Gay Men's Health Crisis, where they will experience hands-on legal work with HIV+ clients from the Greater Metropolitan New York area. Legal AIDS also hosts a series of speakers and films to focus on the global issues, especially in areas such as Southern Africa, Latin America, India, China, and Russia. These events spotlight a myriad of legal issues, from immigration to human rights to sexuality to the right to health and access to drugs. Many, if not all, of these events are co-sponsored with other student groups at NYU. Legal AIDS also works with the local chapter of the Student Global AIDS Campaign, taking an active role in policy and politics, and the NYC Student Initiative for AIDS, a student-run non-profit organization raising funds and awareness through benefit events.
