Residential Networking Services (ResNet)

Residential Networking Services is proud to present a fast Ethernet connectivity solution to the New York University Residence Hall community. Through this connection, NYU-affiliated residents of University-owned housing can have uninterrupted high-speed connections to the Internet within a few minutes of configuring the computer and following the automated registration process.

ResNet provides in-room Ethernet connection to the Internet giving students access to their NYUHome account and email. It is a much faster alternative to using a modem, and it keeps the phone line free.

Information Technology Services provides connectivity support for Windows 2000/XP. Advanced computer users are welcome to connect and configure other operating systems (such as Linux) as long as they abide by the terms of the User Agreement and take responsibility for their own system configuration, support and security.

ResNet is available in Mercer and D'Agostino Residential Halls.

To Register
To register, you have to plug your computer into the network jack in your room, and go to http://resnet.nyu.edu. This is a local NYU web site only for resnet registration, it cannot be reached on the internet. Please make sure your computer is not dialed in, or otherwise connected to the Internet when you are trying to reach the registration page.

To De-Register
Link to http://start.nyu.edu/ - this page can be reached from anywhere on the
internet, not just from dorm rooms. Login with your NetID, follow the instructions for de-registering your computer from Resnet.

Once a student registers in their room, they can plug into any dorm jack and get access. However, if a student changes rooms, they should de-register their computer, and register anew from their new room. If a student moves to a new room without doing this, their old connection will eventually expire, and they will have to register from their new room anyway, to regain internet access.
