Student Affairs

Orientation is required for all first year J.D. students and will take place
Wednesday, August 22 - Monday, August 27.

Welcome to NYU School of Law!  We are excited to have you join our community.  We see your orientation as an introduction to your classmates, faculty and other members of the law school family.  In addition, you'll launch your legal studies with a substantive program that will pave the way for a great experience here.  You will find the preliminary schedule below.

Required Forms
We require your electronic signature on four online forms (your emergency contact form, pledge of academic honesty, memorandum of understanding, and your photo authorization form).  Log on to the required forms website using your NYU Home account to complete the online forms as soon as possible.

Immunization Requirements
The Student Health Center has asked us to remind you the deadline for submission of required immunization history is August 15, 2012.  New York State Public Health Laws 2165 and 2167 require that all students (graduate, undergraduate, transfer, and returning students) taking six or more credits in a degree-granting program must: (a) provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella and (b) complete a meningitis response form.

Failure to meet New York State and NYU mandated immunization requirements will result in:
• Inability to move into residence halls
• De-enrollment on October 3, 2012 of students not in compliance

De-enrollment means:
a) You will be dropped from classes that you have been registered for, and you will no longer be enrolled in or able to attend your classes.
b) You will be excluded from entering campus buildings and your student ID card may also be deactivated.

For more information regarding the New York State and NYU mandated immunization requirements, please visit the Student Health Requirements website.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the immunization requirements, please contact the Student Health Center at health.requirements@nyu.edu or by phone at (212) 443-1000.

Admissions Documentation
Be sure you have completed and submitted your final confirmation of enrollment form, college questionnaire, and your final official-transcript.  To check the status of your enrollment documentation, visit the Admitted Students website and then click on the "Applicant Online Status Check" link on the left hand side of the page.  Please use the username and password you received when you first applied.
For help, write to NYULaw-Admits@nyu.edu or call (212) 998-6060.

Summer Reading Assignment
Click here for your small reading assignment.  This will be discussed at one of your very first orientation sessions.  Please don’t feel compelled to do anything with this case except read it a couple of times.

Suggested Reading
Students often ask if there is anything they can or should read in preparation for beginning their course of study in the law.  Members of our faculty have offered some summer reading recommendations of meaningful (and fun) reading about the law. They've even offered up the names of some good movies!
Click here for the list. This list is open for augmentation if you have any ideas of your own.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at (212) 998-6658 or write to Law.StudentAffairs@nyu.edu.
